Trincomalee

Trincomalee is a port city in eastern province 257kms from Colombo and this is one of the main centers of Tamil speaking culture on the island. The city is home to the famous ancient Koneshwaram temple, also this harbour is the 5th largest deep water natural harbour in the world. It was known as Gokanna in pali or Gokarna in Sanskrit in early days. This has played a major role in the maritime and international trading history of Sri-Lanka by ancient kings, Portugese, Dutch and British. Trincomalee has some of the picturesque and scenic beaches, such as Nelaveli, the area is famous for bathing and swimming, owing to the relative shallowness of the sea, allowing one to walk out over a hundred meters in to the sea without the water reaching the chest. The beaches are used for surfing, scuba diving, fishing and a whales watching also near by this area is situated Pigeon’s Island which was declared as Marine National Park, it has a beautiful coral sanctuary and which is a paradise for Scuba diving and Snorkeling also surfing and fishing.

The city also has one of the largest Dutch fortresses in Sri-Lanka. Its home to major Sri-Lanka naval bases and a Sri-Lanka Air force base. There are seven hot springs of kanniya, the water is warm and temperature of each spring being slightly different.

Pasikuda

Pasi-Kuda is one of the famous and one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri-Lanka, which is located 300kms away from Colombo. Pasi-Kuda has become a popular tourist destination amongst local and foreigners alike. This is because known to have one of the longest stretches of shallow coastline in the world. The area is famous for bathing and swimming, which allowing one to walk out over a hundred meters in to the sea without the water reaching the chest. Note: Today it has a good infrastructure, from Polonnaruwa you can reached to Pasi-Kuda within two and half hours.

Arugambay

Arugambay is located 320 km due east of Colombo and which is on the list of the top ten surf points in the world, this typical fishing village to the south of the small town of Pottuvil can be reached via A4 from Colombo. The best time of the year is between May and November when the predominant wind is offshore for at least first half of the day and the average wave height goes to 3 to 4 meters.

Tangalle

Tangalle is located in down south of Hambanthota few kilometers away from Mathara. It’s a beautiful and natural palm fringed sea bay and a fishing harbour offering great sea food. The long and great beach and the corals reef are best attractions. Dickwella

Dickwella beach is about 22km east of Matara. This long sandy beach is largely protected by headlands, reefs and sand-bars, making it safer for swimming. Mirissa

Mirissa, The sea off the south coast from Dondra head is one of the best places in the world to see Blue whales and Sperm whales also Dolphins. The continental shelf is at its narrowest near Dondra head, the southernmost point in Sri-Lanka. As a result both Sperm and Blue whales can be seen relatively close to the shore. November to April is good months in which to observe whales. The best month is December.

Weligama

Weligama is a unique bay and beach with a wide and long sandy beach located in Mathara district of southern province close to Matara. The bay is famous for its remarkable fishermen doing stilt fishing and hand made lase. Devil dance shows and its seafood. Weligama is also a wonderful scuba diving and surfing location.

Unawatuna

Unawatuna is a coastal town in Galle district of Sri-Lanka. Unawatuna is a major tourist attraction in Sri-Lanka and famous for its beautiful beach and Corals. It’s rich of high bio-diversity, its greatest potential attraction for eco-tourism also this is one of the best beaches in the world.

Hikkaduwa

The place located in south of the country, 17km away from Galle. Hikkaduwa is famous for beautiful coral sanctuary and which was declared as a Marine National Park in Sri-Lanka. Mount-Laviniya

The place located 12km from Colombo is a historical city from British colonial period. This is the nearest and best beach from Colombo for swimming. Negombo

Negombo is the fourth largest city in the country is located 7km away from International airport Katunayake. Negombo is known for its huge and old fishing industry with busy fish markets and nice sandy beaches. It is one of the most liberal city in Sri-Lanka with modern life style and its night life in luxury hotels, guest houses, finest restaurants and pubs. In the early morning you can see the beautiful catamarans near by Negombo coastal area.

Other tourist attraction: Visit a fish market, Dutch fortress, Angurukaramulla Temple, Boat ride in the Negombo lagoon.

Kalpitiya

Placed 150km north of the capital Colombo, the kalpitiya region is one of the most beautiful coastal areas located in the western province of Sri-Lanka. Kalpitiya is a peninsular that separates the Puttalam lagoon from the Indian Ocean and is a marine sanctuary with a diversity of habitats ranging from bar reefs, flat coastal plains, saltpans, mangroves swamps, salt marshes and vast sand dune beaches.

Kalpitiya is the best place to see the Dolphins, during the November to March is the best season to see the Dolphins in Kalpitiya, at a time you can witness 1000-1500 Dolphins some times more than that.
